March 11–20, 2018
Millions have been doing it for centuries. Now it’s your turn. From March 11-20, 2018, you can join Matthew Leonard, host of the best-selling Bible and the Sacraments & Bible and the Virgin Mary video series’ for the pilgrimage of a lifetime to the Holy Land.
You’ve read the stories in Sacred Scripture, now watch them explode off the page as you walk in the very footsteps of Christ. His life, his ministry, his Passion, death and Resurrection…it’s all there. So much of humanity’s story revolves around Jerusalem and the surrounding area. It’s the palette upon which is painted the story of our salvation.
This amazing trip includes visits to the major holy sites in Jerusalem like the Mount of Olives, the Pater Noster shrine where Jesus taught the Disciples the Lord’s Prayer, and the Garden of Gethsemene, site of the famous Agony in the Garden. You’ll pray at the Western Wall, the last remnant of the Jerusalem temple destroyed by the Romans in 70AD, and the Upper Room on Mt. Zion where Jesus and the Disciples celebrated the Last Supper.
Of course, Mary is a huge part of the story, too. So you’ll visit the Benedictine Church of the Dormition, where tradition tells us Our Lady “fell asleep” before being assumed body and soul into heaven. Later, you’ll even visit the home of Mary’s parents, Joachim and Anne. (And if you bribe him with chocolate babka, he might even tell you how he overcame his struggles with Mary when converting to Catholicism:)
In addition to all the amazing sites in Jerusalem, the itinerary includes Bethlehem where you’ll celebrate Mass in the Grotto of the Nativity, the Jordan River where Christ was baptized, Caesarea, Nazareth, and Cana, site of the most famous wedding in history and Christ’s first miracle. Then there’s Tiberias, a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee, Mass at the site of the Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor, and Qumran. But that’s not all!
You’ll see where the walls fell down at Jericho, maybe float on the Dead Sea, and see where Lazarus rose from the dead.
Perhaps the highlight of the entire trip is treading the way of the Cross – the Via Dolorosa, followed by Calvary, the site of Christ’s crucifixion. Afterwards, you’ll celebrate what might be the most memorable Mass of your life at the tomb of Christ in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Of course, private Masses will be celebrated in amazing locations daily as one of Matthew’s priest friends will accompany the group.
In addition to the insights and history provided by amazing local tour guides, Matthew will give powerful talks designed to integrate all you’re experiencing into your interior life. Because that’s what it’s all about. Pilgrimage is about transformation. It’s about making us more like Jesus Christ. And there’s no more powerful way to make that happen than by experiencing his world first-hand.
