Lent is less than a month away, and this year, we’re preparing our hearts to enter into the greatest story ever told. It’s a whirlwind of emotions, going from Genesis to Jesus in Sacred Scripture. We know how the story ends, but are we prepared for the long road to get there?

This Lent, we’re taking a few steps to get ready to enter the desert. Here’s how we’re getting ready for the demanding, powerful, joyful story presented in Genesis to Jesus:

Read the Bible

What would a Bible study be if it didn’t lead you to read Scripture? Nothing can tell the story of the Bible better than the Bible itself—Genesis to Jesus is just meant to help you understand what you’re reading. We highly recommend reading the Scripture passages ahead of each lesson. This will not only give you context but will also open your heart to the workings of the Holy Spirit. If you want to read the passages before watching each lesson, get the Genesis to Jesus Participant Workbook, which includes everything you need to prepare for and fully participate in each lesson.

Get the Workbook

Genesis to Jesus consists of four main parts: the videos, the workbook, the supplemental materials, and the leader guide. The videos contain the bulk of the content, and can be viewed by themselves for a rich catechetical experience, but they were designed to be accompanied by the workbook. With a space for notes, recommended reading assignments, discussion questions, and review notes, you’ll be fully prepared to absorb the rich content from the videos. Our video lessons ensure that you don’t need to be an expert to participate in the study, but the workbook helps you encounter the truth relayed in the study and embrace how it pertains to your life.

Read A Father Who Keeps His Promises: God’s Covenant Love in Scripture

Scott Hahn’s A Father Who Keeps His Promises explores God’s covenant love revealed through Scriptures and explains how God works to restore us in right relationship in His divine family. Genesis to Jesus is based largely on Dr. Hahn’s renowned covenant theology, and many recommended supplemental readings come from his book on God’s covenant love. Reading the book ahead of time will help you see the scope of the study and will prepare you for the important themes covered. You’ll see how the patient love of the Father is the same persistent love He has for you.

Find a Group

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” –Matt 18:20

Know anyone who would love this study? Why not invite them and spend Lent journeying closer to God with friends? The beauty of any Journey Through Scripture study is you don’t need to be an expert on the Bible or in the faith to invite friends into a closer relationship with Christ. All you have to do is extend the invitation. It’s a great way to share the faith and grow closer to your friends at the same time.

Consider Hosting

If you’d like a group to watch Genesis to Jesus with, you might be the one who’s meant to invite friends into your home to watch together. The blessings of participating in a Bible study with friends are immeasurable—not only do you grow in fellowship together, but the insights each person brings enriches the study for everyone. It’s as easy as opening your home, serving wine, and playing the videos. If you’ve never participated in a group study before, we highly recommend making this your first. You’ll be surprised by the blessings of reading God’s Word with friends!
