The Forty Days of Lent

In the first segment Dr. Scott Hahn looks back at the Old Testament precedents for the forty days of Lent as a time of testing, people like Noah, Moses, David, Elijah, and Jonah. Then, paying particular attention to Our Lord’s testing in the wilderness, he draws out how we should approach this season of Lent.

The second segment is drawn from Mike Aquilina’s book, Villains of the Early Church: And How They Made Us Better Christians. This time we’re looking at the Roman emperor, Julian the Apostate who was baptized as a child and hid his pagan beliefs until he became emperor. His efforts to create a state-sponsored paganism failed. But they also help to show what was so unique about the Catholic faith.
