Lesson 1 - “Where is the Mass in the Bible?” That is the question Scott would ask his high school classmates. This lesson explores liturgy and its significance throughout the entire Scriptures. Beginning with the ritual worship in Genesis all the way to the heavenly liturgy of the Book of Revelation, this initial lesson sets the stage for Parousia: the Bible and the Mass.
Lesson 2 - The meaning of “covenant” is the central theme of this second lesson. Covenant is the way that God deals with His people throughout salvation history. Lesson two looks at the relationship between covenant and liturgy, and how God’s ultimate purpose for humanity is communion with Himself.
Lesson 3 - Was the crucifixion of Jesus an execution or a sacrifice? In this lesson, Scott discusses the sacrificial nature of Christ’s offering beginning in the Upper room and culminating at Calvary. He clarifies the meaning of “New Testament” as it was understood by the early Church. What we’ll discover is that it is more than a document.
Lesson 4 - This fourth lesson takes a look at eucharistic prefigurements in the Old Testament. Through the use of the interpretive lens of typology, Scott surveys the different types of the Eucharist hidden in the Old Covenant that anticipated God’s people to live in communion with Him. From the offering of Melchizedek to the prophecy of Malachi, God was preparing Israel with His abiding presence.
Lesson 5 - In this lesson, Scott now moves to the Gospels to uncover types of the Eucharist in Christ’s infancy and public ministry. From His birth in Bethlehem to His first miracle at Cana, Scott demonstrates how Christ anticipates the ultimate fulfillment of the New Covenant. Everything points to His sacrifice that began in the Upper Room and was completed at Calvary.
Lesson 6 - Kimberly joins Scott in this lesson to discuss the Mass in the Book of Acts and the New Testament Letters. What we’ll discover is that from its first days, the Church was preoccupied not only with table fellowship, but with communion.
Lesson 7 - The Letter to the Hebrews and the Book of Revelation offer a unique perspective to liturgy. It is in these two books that we read liturgical imagery, description of sacrifice, altars, priests and banquets. In this lesson, we will see how Hebrews and Revelation describe the Mass as Heaven on earth.
Lesson 8 - Scott takes us through his first experience of Mass in this lesson. Sitting in a back pew trying to take notes of all he observed, he discovered that Catholics heard more Scripture in their liturgies than Protestants did in their services. And that was only the first half of the Mass, in the Liturgy of the Word.
Lesson 9 - Continuing his narration of his first Mass, Scott then proceeds to recount his experience of the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This second half had just as much Scripture as the first. Hearing the priest say, “Lamb of God,” and “Holy, Holy, Holy,” he realized where he was. Right before his eyes we was experiencing the heavenly liturgy.
Lesson 10 - Parousia has often been misunderstood even by biblical scholars. In this final lesson we will see that Christ’s Presence, or Parousia is more than His appearance at his final coming. His Parousia is how He remains with us at every Mass, fulfilling God’s desire for humanity: communion with Him.

i am 87 years of age, and am still learning more of what the devotional prayers, Our Father, Hail Mary have to teach us about Jesus and Mary, the Mother of God. how many times will/must I want to hear Scott Hahn lecture on the Bible and the Mass.....many, i am sure. i am hoping that having the DVD set will help me, tho I do heartily enjoy hearing the spoken words by Scott Hahn.
As a parish DRE and long-time educator, I have struggled to find materials that get to the HEART of the Mass and the unique role of the Scriptures in them. Dr Hahn hits it our of the ball park again. Each week he presents a bite-sized and highly digestible teaching. Each week builds on the previous and invites the listener into a new and Scripturally-based view of the Mass, and in turn helps us see how the Scriptures take on a rich and profound meaning in the Mass. What a treat! I cannot recommend this enough.
Wonderful resource all year round, but especially during Lent! The teaching content is clear and thorough; each aspect, from videography, to music is outstandingly delivered. Traveling through the Old Testament books to the New Testament ones, this work truly unveils how deep the connection between divine worship, Scripture and the Liturgy is. I'm so grateful to be allowed into the process and study that got Dr. Hahn to where he is today, teaching us the beauty and truth of the Catholic Faith - from the heart of Scripture - particularly the crucial role of the Holy Mass in the New Covenant.
What a great and powerful teaching on our beautiful Mass, truly found in God’s Word: Bible and Jesus ~ which we have celebrated throughout the generations, beginning with early creation transformed by Christ to remain with us always. We are really enjoying this Bible study on the Mass so far. We would like to buy the dvd set but I was wondering if the study guide came along with it or if I need to buy it separately?

The study gives great insight into the origins of the Mass and is a great help in discussing with others why the mass is so important in our lives. unfortunately the study is too costly for me
We have greatly enjoyed this amazing series that has increased our understanding of the Eucharist and literary throughout the entire Bible. We missed session one and two. As a protestant ordained pastor who faith is deep in the Anglian/Catholic faith, my Lenten journey void was filled watching all ten episodes of Parousia: The Bible and the Mass. These short, but very strong messages fed me spiritually and to digest each lesson to prepare me for the next one. I now have a better understanding of how it all come together. I will own a set to play over and over and to even teach others the simple loving teaching that Dr. Hahn is so blessed and gifted to do. It was like Dr. Hahn was physically in our den with us. Question: The Bible and the mass online seems to have a different lesson plan than the DVD series. Is one older than the other?
I watched the series online during Lent and loved it. Scott Hahn has an amazing gift and I’ve been following him and reading his books for years. I want to purchase Parousia - The Bible and the Mass DVD set. If I do, do I also get the streaming?

I was unable to finish because I was hospitalized, but what I did view was extremely good and I would like to finish during this lent. And my Parish is contemplating presenting it for whoever wants to participate soon.
