We’ve been talking a lot about hosting this week and offering hospitality to our guests. One of the best ways to do that is through the gift of food. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant—just putting out coffee or tea is enough. But if you’re looking for an easy recipe to start your Bible study off right, try this pumpkin bread from Emily Stimpson Chapman, the expert on Catholic hospitality.
Grandma Miller’s Pumpkin Bread
Makes: 2 loaves
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 90 minutes
Ingredients
- 3.5 cups flour
- 3 cups sugar
- .5 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1.5 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 cups pumpkin puree
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups walnuts, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°.
- Mix dry ingredients together; set aside.
- Mix eggs, sugar, oil, water, and pumpkin together.
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.
- Fold in nuts.
- Divide into greased pans and bake for 90 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
- Enjoy!
