Dr. Ian Murphy

Dr. Ian Murphy left his Baptist church position as head pastor to enter the Catholic Church in 2004. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon, Ian also earned an M.A. in theology in Texas and completed the Ph.D. in systematic theology at Duquesne University, defending his dissertation on the New Evangelization in the United States. Recent experiences include serving on the religious studies faculty at Rosemont College near Philadelphia, PA, regular appearances on the Familyland Television Network, and three seasons hosting his own radio broadcast on 105.1 FM in Indiana, PA.

In addition to working as a fulltime professor at Rosemont College, Murphy has taught a range of courses in world religions, comparative religious studies, Catholic thought, Christian spirituality, and Biblical studies for Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Penn State, and Duquesne. He recently published both installments of a two-part series on Marian Consecration, and is presently authoring an autobiography about his conversion to Catholicism.

In July of 2014, Murphy delivered his conversion story as a keynote address to the Defending the Faith Conference held at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH, with an introduction by Dr. Scott Hahn. Murphy also has forthcoming appearances on the Journey Home program on EWTN, and on the Catholic Answers Live radio broadcast.

Murphy is currently a freelance writer and Catholic speaker who enjoys doing Parish missions, Bible studies, youth & adult conferences, and Church events.  He hopes to secure a tenure-track professorship by Fall 2015. He may be reached at drianpmurphy@gmail.com.
