Our Mission
Emmaus Academic is the academic publishing arm of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. Its mission is to participate in the renewal of Catholic theology through publishing the very best in faithful scholarship. The press seeks to publish cutting-edge and provocative thought that flows from a commitment to the truth revealed in Scripture and Tradition and interpreted by the Magisterium. It is especially interested in scholarship that attempts the integration of Scriptural, Patristic, and Medieval traditions with modern approaches, and has a particular interest in the conversation between Thomism and the various theological schools that have arisen since the mid-20th century. The press is committed to the very highest in academic standards and to the catholic idea that the truth is ultimately translatable across schools of thought and across disciplines. It, therefore, aims to publish books that work across the boundaries between theology, Scripture, philosophy, history, linguistics, anthropology, and the other disciplines of the modern academy. Emmaus Academic hopes to become the publishing center of a community of scholars who pursue the truth, always for the greater glory of God and for the building of his Kingdom.
Our Logo
The Emmaus Academic logo features “F et R” in the negative space of the E and two wings, alluding to Pope St. John Paul II’s Encyclical, Fides et ratio, which opens with the words, “Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth—in a word, to know himself—so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves (cf. Ex 33:18; Ps 27:8-9; 63:2-3; Jn 14:8; 1 Jn 3:2).”
