Oklahoma native Fr. Ray Ryland, Ph.D., J.D., was an Episcopal clergyman from 1950–1963. In 1963 he was received with his wife, Ruth, and their five children into the Catholic Church. Twenty years later, he was ordained to the priesthood of the Catholic Church with a dispensation from the rule of celibacy under the Vatican’s Pastoral Provision.
Fr. Ryland served as a naval officer in World War II, as professor of theology at the University of San Diego from 1969–1991, and as adjunct professor of theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville from 1991–1994 and 1998–2000.
Drawn From Shadows into Truth is a moving testament to the presence of Providence in the life of a man who seemed patiently dedicated to pursuing Truth, no matter where He might lead.
In addition to his autobiography, Fr. Ryland provides extensive explanations of the key points of Catholic doctrine that were of interest to him—and many others on their journey into the Catholic Church. About the Author
The late Fr. Ray Ryland was a beloved convert and apologist and one of the first Protestant ministers ordained to the Catholic priesthood in America. Over the years, Fr. Ryland served as an advisor to many Catholic apostolates, including Catholics United for the Faith and the Coming Home Network International, for whom he was both chaplain and board member for over a decade. He also wrote a popular column for The Catholic Answer for a number of years. Fr. Ryland passed into eternity in 2014.
