In every heart there is a longing to love and to be loved. In The Shepherd at the Crib and the Cross, meet Nissim—a shepherd boy whose name means “miracle” or “wonder.” Nissim’s hope for a Messiah is fulfilled when he encounters the love of the Christ-child at Bethlehem. When Nissim meets that Messiah once again at Calvary, will he be able to offer his gift of love in return?

My daughter made her First Communion last year at Christmas Eve, and I wish we’d had this book then! The connections between Jesus’ birth and death are profound, and they are explored with beauty and grace in this book. Often we think of Christmas and Easter as separate holidays, but this book connects the dots between them beautifully. The story is easy to get into and I loved the main character right away. Nissan’s love for God is portrayed with joy. His journey through life keeps his faith at the fore. And the way it ends just about brought me to tears. There are some great, simple prayer resources in the back, too. Another wonderful children’s book from Emmaus Road.
Captivating Story for Children of All Ages!
The Shepherd at the Crib and the Cross is a beautiful story with breathtaking illustrations. This book is the perfect way to share the story of the life of Christ in a gentle manner with children of all ages. The story takes the reader along as a shepherd encounters Jesus throughout his life. There is a wonderful example of sacrificial love that everyone can learn from in this touching story. Many of our Christmas books get put away at the end of the season, but this is a book that is read throughout the year. We love the prayers for Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter in the back. My children are captivated by this tale and ask for it to be read again and again. It’s a perfect gift for children, grandchildren, or godchildren of all ages to be given in any season.
