The Magisterium Explained

About the course
In this course, we carefully study the Church’s magisterium, which was personally established by Christ. He charged those who hold this teaching office with the duties of guarding, defending, interpreting, and passing on intact the entire Deposit of Faith revealed by Christ and handed on to the Apostles and their successors. We treat the following topics: the founding, nature, and duties of the magisterium; the rule of faith; the different degrees of authority of various magisterial statements and the assent due to each; the principles for interpreting magisterial statements; and how faithful Catholics ought to respond when they encounter difficulties in non-definitive magisterial teachings.
About the presenter
Dr. Michael Sirilla holds a PhD in systematic and historical theology from The Catholic University of America and has been a professor of systematic and moral theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville since 2001. In 2002, upon making the Profession of Faith and swearing the Oath of Fidelity, he received the canonical mandatum to teach Catholic theology from Bishop Daniel Conlon.
