Introducing a New Podcast from Scott Hahn and the St. Paul Center

As an author, speaker, and scholar, Scott Hahn has spent decades teaching Catholics how to read the Bible from the heart of the Church. Dr. Hahn is not only renowned for his biblical scholarship, but also for his ability as a speaker to convey the truths of the faith clearly—and always with a good story and a good pun to go around. If you’ve ever heard him speak, you know the impact of his personal testimony and his wealth of knowledge on the Catholic faith.

Now, he’s bringing many of his most popular talks to listeners everywhere on The Road to Emmaus, a new St. Paul Center podcast.

As a former Protestant, Dr. Hahn understands the deeply biblical roots of every aspect of our faith, and it has been his mission to share this with other Catholics. From the Mass to morality, from spirituality to the sacraments, from doctrines to devotions, The Road to Emmaus will explore the riches of our Catholic faith, all while remaining anchored to Scripture.

Why “The Road to Emmaus”?

The story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24 is an important Scripture passage for Dr. Hahn personally, as well as for the mission of the St. Paul Center. In this passage, the risen Jesus appears to two disciples traveling to Emmaus, where Jesus “interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures” (Luke 24:27). Then, he celebrates the Eucharist with them, revealing himself in the breaking of the bread (Luke 24:30-31). And it is only in the breaking of the bread that the two disciples recognize Jesus—before he vanishes in his earthly Body, leaving them his Body in the Eucharist.

This Scripture passage illustrates an essential truth for all Catholics, a truth that led Dr. Hahn to enter the Church over thirty years ago, and one that guides all the work we do here at the St. Paul Center. And that is this: the liturgy is biblical, and the Bible is liturgical.

This is as true now as it was for the two disciples on the road to Emmaus: the Scriptures that Jesus interprets are in service to an encounter with Jesus in the Mass, in the Eucharist.

Once you begin to understand how Scripture shapes and informs the liturgy, it changes everything. So much of our work at the St. Paul Center is centered around teaching Catholics to read the Bible from the Heart of the Church, and the beating heart of the Church is indeed the liturgy. In it, the Church reads the Old and New Testaments together in a way that makes sense for our lives, just as it reveals God’s over-arching plan for salvation.

We’re excited to travel with you on The Road to Emmaus. We hope this weekly podcast will help you get more out of the Mass and navigate some of the challenges we face as Catholics.
